Our most recent product is SERUM SuperSoft. It is actually a combination of three of our existing products, packaged together to offer a lower price. It delivers pristine, pH balanced spa water that also feels soft. It is formulated to be used with any of the primary hot tub sanitizers, including chlorine, bromine, or biguanide. It is also designed to remedy their deficiencies.
Let me also note that though some spa folks may discuss processes such as UV, Ozone, Oxidizers, and various Mineral regimens as sanitizers, they are NOT primary sanitizers. They all have some ability to reduce the pathogen load in hot tubs. However, in all cases this sanitation ability is too small for the EPA to consider them primary sanitizers. SERUM SuperSoft can also be used with all of these processes, but the EPA requires the use of a halogen-based sanitizer. These halogens are either chlorine or bromine.
Primary Spa Sanitizer Weaknesses
Unfortunately, even the halogen-based & biguanide primary sanitizers have their weaknesses, one of the largest simply being that folks forget to continuously maintain the proper concentration of these sanitizers in their spa water. The result is cloudy, less than pristine, water.
In order of their popularity, chlorine regimens are most common with biguanide being the least commonly used.
Though most commonly used, chlorine, has the most issues. It tends to off-gas, meaning not stay in water at hot tub temperatures around 100 degrees. It’s ability to kill bacteria and other spa pathogens is highly dependent on maintaining proper spa water pH. The most common version of chlorine is dichlor, which is 50% another chemical called cyanuric acid (CYA). As this CYA builds up in your spa water, it also reduces the ability of the chlorine to kill bacteria. Lastly, most folks also find chlorine harsher on their skin than bromine or biguanide.
Next in line is bromine which frankly has none of the weaknesses of chlorine. However, there is still the issue of continuously maintaining 3 – 5 ppm bromine in spa water. It’s all too easy to forget to check your spa regularly to ensure this concentration is maintained.
The least commonly used regimen is biguanide which is often sold touting the fact that it is not a halogen-based regimen. However, it is subject to some issues that are rarely seen with chlorine or bromine, namely Pink Slime and White-Water Mold. Both are rather nasty in your spa and White-Water Mold, once established, can be particularly hard to eradicate, though you can with our Total Cleanse.
SERUM SuperSoft
Our SERUM SuperSoft is a combination of our EPA Registered Total Maintenance, Cashmere, and pH Down. Cashmere and pH Down are generally added only once with each new spa refill while Total Maintenance is added weekly to your spa water. SERUM SuperSoft is designed to last 4 months in a typical 400-gallon hot tub.
Total Maintenance overcomes all of the weaknesses inherent to primary sanitizers as neither high water temperatures, CYA, nor pH changes affect its ability to eliminate bacteria. Essentially Total Maintenance is an insurance policy ensuring your spa water is always pure and pristine, ready for you to use your hot tub at any time. It is also a very strong pH buffer, so if you are using chlorine, Total Maintenance also helps ensure it is working by keeping your spa water pH in the proper range of 7.2 – 7.6.
Cashmere is an additional pH buffer, but its primary purpose is to make your spa water feel soft. Literally, you can feel the difference between your spa water, with Cashmer, and your regular tap water. It’s just softer feeling.
Finally, we include pH Down to help get your initial pH readings in the proper range when setting up your hot tub.
Let me suggest you give it a try AND to make it easy for you to always stay in stock, we offer an Auto-Ship Program via your local Serum dealer that gives you a substantial discount.
